The point and the circle - the one and the many - the unknowable and the obvious - content and form - the metaphysical and the physical - many pairs of concepts that mean the same thing. In the parable, one could also think of the relationship of seed and mature plant to realize that the small, the single part, already contains the whole. So we need a body to gain awareness. The world of the visible is the vehicle that brings us into contact with transcendence. This identity of reality and illusion holds a big secret that some may pass too fast. The right understanding of this paradoxical context can save us from two extreme behaviors that we are all too happy to give in: Either we lose ourselves in the world of forms (materialism) or we try to flee the world of forms in the delusion that one could be outside to find spirituality in the world. But we can not escape the world because it exists in our consciousness alone. So we have to use the world for our way to the middle.
